Description

Three TLSs from notable World War II officers George C. Marshall, Chester Nimitz, and Mark W. Clark, each one page, dated between 1940 and 1948. The Marshall letter, signed "G. C. Marshall," War Department letterhead, June 25, 1940, addressed to former congressman Harry B. Hawes: "Please accept my thanks for sending the artistic Bill of Rights scroll to me. The presentation in bold letters is a forceful reminder to those fortunate enough to live under such ideals;" the Nimitz letter, signed "C.W. Nimitz, Rear Admiral, USN," Navy Department letterhead, June 26, 1940, also addressed to Hawes, in part: "I wish to acknowledge with thanks and appreciation the receipt of a copy of the Bill of Rights which you so kindly sent me and which I will keep in my Library of valuable papers”; and the Clark letter, Headquarters Sixth Army letterhead, October 6, 1948, addressed to Rear Admiral M. L. Royar, declining an invitation to the Navy Day Open House: “Unfortunately, my present plans are to go to Utah and Nevada…from which I probably shall not return until the 25th.” In overall fine condition.
