American statesman (1752-1804) who served in the Continental Congress from 1786 to 1788 and in the United States Senate from 1795 to 1801, including a five-month stint as president pro tempore. ALS signed “Wm. Bingham,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, March 4, 1799. Letter to Messrs. LeRoy, Bayard & McEver, in part: "I shall forward to you the state of my account, with an error that was introduced into the last corrected—& hope that it may be liquidated without the necessity of sending a person to New York on the Business." Addressed on the integral leaf in Bingham's hand, and free franked across the top, "Free, Wm. Bingham." In very good to fine condition, with light soiling, intersecting folds, and staining to the integral address leaf from old adhesive residue.
