Description

Founder and editor of the New York Tribune (1811-1872) who used the power of his newspaper to advocate for a variety of liberal causes, most importantly the call for emancipation of slaves during the Civil War. ALS, one page, 5 x 8.25, Office of The Tribune letterhead, September 8, 1864. Letter to P. J. Gray, setting up a meeting, in his extremely difficult to read hand. In very good condition, with trimmed edges, and show-through at the corners from old mounting remnants on the back.
