One of the most famous British Jews of the 19th century (1784-1885), Montefiore was a financier, banker, philanthropist, and Sheriff of London. Black-bordered personal "Holy Land" mailing envelope belonging to Moses Montefiore, 5.75 x 3.5, addressed in another hand, "To—Pittis Esq're, mayor of Newport, &c &c &c, Newport, Isle of Wight," and signed in the lower left by Montefiore. In very good to fine condition, with light overall creasing.
