Description

TLS signed “Yours sincerely, Winston S. Churchill,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, Chartwell, Westerham, Kent letterhead, August 15, 1955. Letter to editor and publisher Desmond Flower, in full: "I shall be quite ready to lay the foundation stone of your new building on April 23 next year. Perhaps when we get nearer the time you will let me know the details. The new project about which you write to me should certainly be considered, together with all the others for producing shorter and cheaper variations, but I should not have thought the time had come for that yet." Churchill adds the salutation in his own hand. In fine condition. Desmond Flower (1907-1997) was the longtime editor and director at London's Cassell & Co., a publishing house that released numerous collected speeches by Churchill, in addition to two of his most enduring works: the six-volume The Second World War, and the four-volume A History of the English-Speaking Peoples.
