TLS signed “Winston S. Churchill,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, Chartwell, Westerham, Kent letterhead, October 27, 1955. Letter to editor and publisher Desmond Flower, in full: "I am afraid there can be no question of my releasing Volume I before the 15th November. I have had Hodge and Kelly out here, and we have been working very hard. There is plenty of time. I am sorry if this should cause you inconvenience." Churchill adds a handwritten postscript: "P.S. I have to read page 2 to 4." The letterhead has been amended to read: "La Capponcina, Cap d'Ail, A.M." In fine condition. Desmond Flower (1907-1997) was the longtime editor and director at London's Cassell & Co., a publishing house that released numerous collected speeches by Churchill, in addition to two of his most enduring works: the six-volume The Second World War, and the four-volume A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, with the latter undoubtedly the very subject of this letter.
