After retiring from the mound with a career 133-92 record and 2.92 ERA, Breechen became one of the best pitching coaches in baseball. Guiding the Baltimore Orioles staff from 1954 to 1967, he trained many young pitchers including Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, Steve Barber, Chuck Estrada, and Milt Pappas.
