The treasure of the 1956 Topps set is none other than card no. 135, legendary Yankees center fielder Mickey Mantle. Widely considered one of the Mick’s most attractive cards, it is a real stunner: Mantle’s youthful good looks are captured in his portrait, where he cracks an ear-to-ear grin; and his prowess on the ballfield is captured in the flashy action shot, as he scales an outfield wall to rob a home run ball. To top it off, 1956 was Mantle’s greatest year—he captured the Triple Crown and won the American League MVP on the strength of a .353 batting average, 52 home runs, and 130 RBI. This exemplar, with brilliant colors and a perfect glossy finish, is well deserving of its high grade. Though not impossible to find at the PSA MINT 9 level, only five grade higher.
