Description

Like players must, Warren Giles first proved himself as a capable baseball executive in the minor leagues. He rose to prominence as the president and business manager of the St. Louis Cardinals’ top level farm teams, the Syracuse Stars and the Rochester Red Wings, before being named general manager of the Cincinnati Reds in 1936. Under Giles’s able hand, the Reds rose from a last-place record in 1937 to back-to-back National League pennants in 1939 and 1940. Replacing Ford Frick as National League president in 1951, Giles led the league through one of its most transformative eras of expansion—the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants moved west in the ’50s, and the ’60s saw the creation of the Mets, Padres, Astros, and Expos. Giles was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979, and the National League Championship trophy is named the William C. Giles Trophy in his honor.

The 1956 Topps Warren Giles card is tough to find in mint condition, with five graded by PSA at this level and one higher. A slightly off center cut is the only thing holding this one back from gem mint status.

Buyer's Premium is 20% on all 1956 Topps Cards.
