ALS in French, one page, 5 x 8, November 27, 1888. Written from Paris, an untranslated letter regarding the reproduction of Zola's novel Le Rêve in the periodicals La Vie populaire and La Lecture. In fine condition. Founded in 1880, La Vie populaire was a French illustrated biweekly periodical that featured serialized novels and short stories, as well as numerous illustrations. In 1889, Zola's novel, The Human Beast appeared there in several installments. Published by Charpentier in October 1888, Le rêve (The Dream), the sixteenth novel in Zola's Rougon-Macquart series, is about an orphan girl who falls in love with a nobleman during the 1860s.
