ALS in French, one page, 5.25 x 8, black-bordered stationery, May 12, 1881. Letter written from Medan, in full (loosely translated): "Someone absolutely disappointed/deceived you regarding my relations and my influence. I live apart and I would not know how to recommend you with anyone. You ask me at least some advice. My incompetence is great; it seems to me that should find that easily. Look in the newspapers, use the people whom you have taught. I am sorry for my lack of positivity, and I ask you to accept the assurance of my distinguished consideration." In fine condition.
