French novelist, poet, and critic (1852-1935) who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature five times. Collection of five ALSs by Paul Bourget, plus an ink signature and one of his personal calling cards with a handwritten note. One letter, in part (translated): "Your word arrives here and I come immediately to tell you that I do not know anyone or correspondent. If you are in touch with him, you could ask for his support from my colleague, the Marquis de Vogue, who I believe is chairman of the board of directors. For the Revue des deux mondes it seems to me that a personal approach with Mr. Rene Doumic, and a manuscript delivery in his hands would be the most effective procedure. I do not yet know the exact date of my return, but you have no doubt that I am not ready to support you with my influence. Unfortunately, it is very small. Madame Bourget asks me not to forget it with you." Another letter, written in English in the third-person, in part: "Mr. Paul Bourget sends Mr. Lincoln his thanks for his amiable note. Being extremely busy during these days, it would be difficult for him to give an appointment which he could not be sure of keeping exactly. He would be very much obliged to M. Lincoln for explaining by letter the matter he refers to and adds here his best compliments." In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a four-page manuscript in another hand about Bourget and George Alexander, who acquired the rights to Bourget's play Le Tribun.
