Description

Banville attends a banquet for the Parisian press, offered by the "publishers of Les Miserables"

French poet and writer (1823-1891) whose work was influential in the Symbolist movement. Three ALSs in French, totaling four pages on three sheets, dated from 1862 to 1889. One, in part (translated): "I justly have too high an opinion of you to believe that the slight disagreement between us, to my great regret, prevents you from giving a space in the Revue and an appreciation of my Poems of which a new edition has just appeared from the editor, J. Tardieu." Another, in part (translated): "My trip was only to attend the banquet that M. M. Lacroix and Verboeckhaven, publishers of Les Miserables, offered to the Parisian press. I would be obliged to you a thousand times and grateful, sir, if your kindness enabled me to see the great poet who has always been for me a revered master." In overall very good to fine condition, with overall foxing to one of the letters.
