Description

Large paper 'Seed Peanuts' bag from Carter's Warehouse in Plains, Georgia, 18.5 x 33, depicting a large image of a peanut above red and blue text: "Custom Shelled, Hand Picked." Signed in black felt tip by Jimmy Carter. In fine condition. After the death of his father in 1953, Carter left his naval career and returned home to Georgia to take up the reins of his family's peanut-growing business. Although the first-year harvest failed due to drought, Carter took classes, read up on agriculture, and opened several bank lines of credit to keep the farm afloat, with Rosalynn learning accounting to manage the business's books. The Carters' hard work soon paid off and their peanut business became quite successful.
