Two items: a 1926 Spalding Champions Sam Rice baseball card, signed in blue ballpoint, "'Sam' Rice'"; and an autograph letter signed by Rice, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4 x 5, April 10, 1963, referencing his recent election to the Hall of Fame, in part: "As the voting was held the last of January and we were leaving for Fla Feb 1st for 2 months and the mail was already pileing up I decided to have none forwarded and wait until I came back to answer, well April 2nd on arriving home I had about 2000 to look over, over half of them was from youngsters wanting autographs with cards and self addressed envelopes so the older ones had to wait…I am sorry, but years ago photographs and decent pictures ran out but am enclosing a card that was given to me years ago. I was much interested in your book of the Arizona, we have been to Honolulu 3 times and the first time there went to see the Memorial of the Arizona and for 3 days I was seeing Red as I had been lead to believe the Federal government had sealed it off (which it had) and made a decent looking memorial but when I could see the rusting hand rail very near all the way around and part of the rusting bow of the ship, well to tell the truth it was a terrible sight to me for as a youngster I had served for a year and 11 months on the old U.S.S. New Hampshire in the fleet with the Arizona. I am still burning some, we are expecting to spend next winter in Honolulu again if the good lord lets us live. Well thats off my chest so thanks to you folks." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
