Description

English boxer (1928-1966) who was considered by some to be Europe's best middleweight boxer of the 1940s and 1950s. In 1951 he became world middleweight champion when he defeated Sugar Ray Robinson. Later, bankrupt, he committed suicide in 1966. Vintage glossy 3.5 x 5.25 photo of Turpin in a boxing pose, signed and inscribed on the reverse in blue ballpoint, "To 'Ken,' With best wishes from Randy Turpin, Groningen Airport, 1951.” In very good to fine condition, with a few small creases and some postal impressions to the photo side, and a typed collector's notation to the reverse.
