Scarce collection of eight “Mission Rules” manuals from the personal collection of a flight controller at the Manned Spacecraft Center, comprised of revised and draft manuals for the Mercury-Redstone 4 mission and for Mercury-Atlas missions 3 through 9, each bearing handwritten notations and individually presented in three-ring binders.
The highlight of the group is a Mercury-Atlas 3 Mission Rules manual belonging to Gene Kranz, then serving as the Operations and Procedures Officer in the Mercury Control Center. The manual is an MCC Correction Copy, March 15, 1961, with opening page marked in red ink, “Kranz, Master,” who also adds notations to a few other pages.
The other manuals include:
Mission Rules for the Mercury-Redstone 4 mission (MR-4), Final Draft A, July 13, 1961.
Mission Rules for the Mercury-Atlas 4 mission (MA-4), Final Draft B, August 1, 1961.
Mission Rules for the Mercury-Atlas 5 mission (MA-5), Final Draft B, October 25, 1961.
Mission Rules for the Mercury-Atlas 6 mission (MA-6), Final Draft F, January 25, 1962.
Mission Rules for the Mercury-Atlas 7 mission (MA-7), Final Draft C, May 17, 1962.
Mission Rules for the Mercury-Atlas 8 mission (MA-8), Revision A (Final Draft), August 20, 1962.
Mission Rules for the Mercury-Atlas 9 mission, (MA-9), Issue 3, December 25, 1962.
In overall very good to fine condition, with evident signs of use and age. Originates from the personal collection of Manfred 'Dutch' von Ehrenfried, a Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Flight Controller, Apollo Pressure Suit Test Subject, NASA hi-altitude aircraft crew member, Mission Staff Engineer and Branch Chief from 1961-1971.
