British general (1719-1787) who was commander in chief of the North American forces from 1763 to 1775. Partly-printed DS, signed “Tho: Gage,” one page, 6.5 x 8, June 15, 1774. Pay order issued as colonial governor of Massachusetts, in part: "You are by and with the Advice and Consent of His Majesty's Council, ordered and directed to pay unto Mr. Israel Nichols, the sum of Twelve Pounds, for the use of the Town Leominster, a fine remitted for not sending a Representative to the Gen'l Court last year." Signed at the conclusion by Governor Thomas Gage and Deputy Secretary John Cotton. In very good to fine condition, with light toning and foxing, and tape repairs to fold splits on the reverse.
