American author (1856-1923) best known for the juvenile classic Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. Uncommon AMQS on an off-white 6.5 x 4.5 sheet signed in fountain pen, “Kate Douglas Wiggin, New York Feb. 23, 1914,” who adds three bars of music from "Bleubart Motiv, FF Meastero Pompero,” with Wiggin adding below: “Souvenir of my burlesque lecture recital on a posthumous opera by Wagner entitled ‘Bluebeard,’ an occasion made delightful by the art of my brother artist Leon Rennay." In fine condition. Although noted as a children’s novelist, Wiggin was also a songwriter and composer of music. In 1914 she published ‘Bluebeard: A Musical Fantasy,’ a music-drama spoof on Wagnerian opera and music critics.The ‘Blaubart Motiv’ (Bluebeard Motif) was among the more prominent motifs in this book.Wiggin gave a few lecture-recitals of her book after it was published.Leon Rennay, the recipient of this autograph, wasthe professional name used by Rene Vion Papin (1879-1920), an American baritone who gave command recitals before Queen Victoria and the Italian Sovereigns.
