Description

Rare book: Apollo/Saturn V: Roll of Honor. Limited edition, numbered 387/1817. Seattle, WA: The Boeing Company, 1970. Clothbound hardcover, 11.25 x 14, 327 pages. A ‘First and Only Edition Disposition’ bookplate affixed to the inside front cover lists the first four copies and issues the book to Walter Earnest Jerominski, whose biography can be found on page 33. In fine condition, with some light soiling to the front cover.

This rare large-format volume is filled with photos and diagrams and covers every aspect of Boeing's manufacturing, assembly, and testing at the Michoud Plant in Louisiana of the first stage (S-IC) of the Saturn V rocket. It also covers Boeing's activities at NASA's Marshall, Kennedy, and Manned Space Flight centers, as well as its involvement in Apollo technical integration at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The 'roll of honor' reference in the title refers to a 181-page collection of short biographical sketches of Boeing personnel and associate contractors involved in the Apollo program. Jerominski was the supervisor responsible for the activities of the Propulsion/Mechanical Design Organization. He received a special Zero Defects Award in June of 1967, which was granted because of his outstanding efforts in the preparation and presentation of the first Boeing Design Certification Review.
