Group lot of nine Heilbroner Baseball Bureau information cards relating to members of the notorious 1919 Black Sox World Series. The cards, each 5 x 3, feature personal and organizational information for the following players: Ray Schalk, Red Faber (2), Charles Robertson, Eddie Murphy, Dickie Kerr (who signs on the reverse), Harry Leibold, Dave Danforth, and Joe Jenkins. The cards date between 1912 and 1930 and are annotated on the fronts and backs with updates and corrections dating up to 1948, in addition to dates and teams of their respective careers. In overall fine condition, with old tape stains to top edge of three of the cards. Consignor notes that these cards were sold to SABR co-founder Ray Nemec, who used them as the basis for his player profiles and lifetime records. Louis Heilbroner (1861-1933), a one-time manager for the St. Louis Cardinals, was a pioneer in baseball statistics who in 1909 founded Heilbroner's Baseball Bureau Service, the first commercial statistical bureau dedicated to baseball, and began publishing the Baseball Blue Book.
