1865 amnesty oath to support "all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the Emancipation of Slaves"

Partly-printed DS, signed “H. E. Safford,” one page, 8.5 x 7, October 26, 1865. Amnesty oath sworn in 1865, in part: "I, H. E. Safford, do solemnly swear in the presence of Almighty God that I will hereafter faithfully defend the Constitution of the United States, and the union of States there-under; and that I will in like manner abide by and support all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the Emancipation of Slaves, so help be God." Signed at the conclusion by Safford and countersigned by Captain and Provost Marshal S. M. Smith at Galveston, Texas. In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds and overall creasing.
