Description

New Jersey statesman and a signer of the United States Constitution (1745-1806) who was an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and the second governor of New Jersey. Very rare ALS signed “Wm. Paterson,” one page both sides, 8.25 x 7.25, January 8, 1793. Written from New Brunswick, a letter to New Jersey State Treasurer James Mott, in part: "The third Installment of the 100 Shares subscribed in Behalf of the State to the Society for establishing useful manufactures is either now law, or will be so in a few days. I do not know precisely the Sum, but it will be between eight and nine hundred Pounds in Jersey Paper. I do not know of any Person going to Trenton…and therefore I request, that you will be pleased to send by the first safe opportunity about £850 in Jersey Paper, or about 2060 Spanish Dollars." In very good to fine condition, with scattered light staining. From the Collection of Dr. Lawrence E. Miller.
