American military officer and statesman (1826-1886) who fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. An activist on behalf of veterans' affairs, Logan was instrumental in the creation of Memorial Day as a public holiday. Superb 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Logan in uniform, signed on the mount in ink, "John A. Logan," and on the reverse, "Yours truly, John A. Logan."
