Union general (1807-1864) who commanded a division at Gettysburg and was killed in action at the Battle of the Wilderness. Civil War-dated ALS signed “Jas. S. Wadsworth,” one page, 4.75 x 7.75, Headquarters Military District of Washington letterhead, October 7, 1862. Letter to New England author Nathan Henry Chamberlain, in full: "I have just sent an officer out to see your son Wm. He is comfortable and getting better. Your other son is not within my jurisdiction." Double-matted and framed with a photo of Wadsworth and other officers to an overall size of 21.5 x 14.5. In fine condition.
