ALS, one page both sides, 5.75 x 8.75, June 21, 1947. Letter to Mr. Leavitt, in full: "Your letter has been forwarded on to me here where I am staying for the summer. Thanks so much for your good thoughts of me. Alas, I am afraid I cannot come to you, as negotiations are progressing favorably for me to do a play next fall that requires my rehearsing Aug. 15th in N.Y.—then 4 or 5 weeks on the road & then into N. Y. I am purposely not mentioning the name of the play & its producer—this is a rule with me until everything is 'signed up & delivered'—But I have no reason to believe I shall not do the play, which I like very much. Thanks again, I hope I can be with you another year." In fine condition.
