Distinguished American painter (1849-1916) best known for his society portraits rendered in his distinctive impressionist style. ALS signed “Wm. M. Chase,” one page, 7 x 4.5, January 12, 1898. Letter to noted photographer Frederick O. Bemm, in full: "Enclosed you will find my check for the photographs. They are very satisfactory." In very good to fine condition, with a central vertical fold, and toning over most of the letter.
