Description

Two TLSs, each one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, October 24 and November 15, 1955. Both to Mr. Lewis H. Weinstein, president of the Combined Jewish Appeal. The first, in full: "I certainly appreciated your letter of the 14th, and so did Mrs. Truman. We enjoyed the meeting in Boston very, very much, and the hospitality was all anyone could desire." The second, in full: "I certainly appreciate your note of October twenty-ninth. It was very thoughtful of you to write me about Eddie's death." Truman references the death of his close friend, Jewish businessman Edward Jacobson, who historians believe helped to push Truman to recognize the new state of Israel in 1948. In fine condition, with a few small stains to the later letter.
