Description

Group of items representing the meeting between President Harry S. Truman and General Douglas MacArthur at the Wake Island Conference, where they discussed progress and war strategy for the Korean Peninsula:

TLS signed "Harry S. Truman," one page, personal letterhead, May 27, 1964. To Arnold Gates, in part: "Thank you for your good letter of the 5th, extending good wishes on my 80th birthday."

TLS signed "Douglas MacArthur," one page, February 19, 1963. To Louise J. Klubnik, in part: "Thank you so much for your birthday greeting. It was a happy anniversary and your good wishes added greatly to my enjoyment of the occasion." Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.

An unsigned spiral-bound "Log of President Truman's Trip to Wake Island, October 11-18, 1950," compiled by Lt-Comdr. William M. Rigdon, USN, 93 pages, 8.5 x 10.5, containing images and descriptions of the events of the trip; with a "Destination: Wake, Objective: Transportation!" booklet detailing the flight log, passenger list, and air crew.

A "Domain of Phoebus Apollo" certificate issued to White House Chief Usher Rex Scouten, signed by Flight Commander Francis W. Williams. In part: "Rex Scouten, once earthbound and time-laden…with the speed of Our Winged Chariot this subject did accompany President Harry S. Truman flying the Pacific Skies over the International Dateline to meet in historic conference with General Douglas MacArthur on Wake Island, October 15, 1950."

In overall very good to fine condition.
