Description

Composer, arranger, and conductor of music for films (1900-1970) who received 45 Oscar nominations throughout his prolific career, winning the award nine times. Two items: a TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, July 5, 1962, addressed to Ken Browne: "According to my files, I did answer your last letter and forward a photograph as you requested. Apparently they did not reach their destination. Enclosed is another photograph which I have autographed…You asked which of my albums gave me the most satisfaction. I believe one of my latest, Themes, can qualify. It was my first 'pop' album as such and the response from the public was very gratifying"; and a glossy 8 x 10 photo of Newman holding sheet music with a baton under his arm, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, "To the Brownes—With gratitude, Sincerely, Alfred Newman." In overall very good to fine condition, with scattered creasing and paperclip impressions to the photo, and a tear to the top edge of the letter.
