Union general and politician (1819-1873) whose geographically diverse posts included governor of the Kansas Territory, mayor of San Francisco, and governor of Pennsylvania. Partly-printed DS, signed “Jno. W. Geary,” one page, 15.5 x 19.5, November 17, 1871. As governor of Pennsylvania, Geary informs Phineas Arnold that he has "been duly elected Associate Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of the county of Wayne," and appoints him to the position. Signed in the upper left by Governor Geary, and endorsed on the reverse by Arnold. The red seal affixed to the upper left remains intact. Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 23 x 27, with a cutout in the backing for viewing the docketing on the reverse. In very good to fine condition.
