President Monroe grants Benjamin Johnson, "Assignee of John Payne," a tract of land in Edwardsville "containing one hundred and sixty acres." Signed at the conclusion by President Monroe, and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office George Graham. White paper seal remains affixed to lower left. Note affixed to left side of documents affirms that "William Russell has long since sold and conveyed this tract of land by Deed to the Purchaser—July 1851." Double-matted and framed with a portrait of Monroe to an overall size of 25.5 x 14.5. In fine condition.
