The Beatles Yesterday and Today mono 'third state' butcher cover (Capitol, 1966). This 'third state' version features the 'butcher' cover, the previously affixed 'trunk' cover pasteover having been professionally peeled from the album jacket to reveal the butcher cover underneath. The peel is in good to very good condition, with heavy overall creasing, staining, and multiple tears repaired on the reverse; the album itself is in fine condition. The record and original Capitol inner sleeve are included.
Within days of releasing this miscellany of previous hits, Capitol recalled all copies in response to retailers' negative reactions to the original macabre cover image. The recalled copies were 'retrofitted' with a new pictorial flat, pasted over the first, featuring an innocuous image of the boys posed around a steamer trunk; these have frequently been peeled away by collectors to reveal the infamous butcher image below.
