Pair of two shackle-type Master padlocks used to secure the containers that housed Prince's master tapes, circa 1984-1986. Each lock includes a set of two keys. Before Paisley Park was built, Prince's master recordings were kept offsite in a climate-controlled facility that housed hundreds of large storage bins, each of which had one of these locks on each end of the container. The numbering system inside the vault was originally based on these storage containers, as each would hold four 2″ master tapes. In 1987, the masters were moved to the vault at Paisley Park and the container system was done away with. In fine condition, with wear from use. From the collection of Prince’s former assistant and accompanied by a letter of provenance.
