Distinguished American-born artist (1856-1925) who spent most of his career as an expatriate in Europe. While he painted a variety of subjects in various media, his fame rests primarily on his evocative, penetrating society portraits. ALS signed “John S. Sargent,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 3.5, Tite Street letterhead, no date. Letter to Mr. Salisbury, in part: "I will be glad to see you on Wed. morning at 10.15, not here but at studio 12…I cannot be there at 2 o'clock." In fine condition, with two punch holes, and some edge surface loss to the signed side.
