TLS signed “Ethel,” one page, 5.75 x 7.75, black-bordered letterhead, January 28, 1969. Letter to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas deB. Katzenbach, in full: "Thank you for the thoughtful and generous way you remembered us this Christmas. I was wondering how I was ever going to gather together all of Bobby’s books for each of the children and then his friends came along and did it for me. It is a delight to have everyone’s names on the book plate and for the first time each child has had the pleasure of having his or her name on something of their own. My deep and happy thanks are added to those of the children." She adds a handwritten postscript: "Lydia—I know how specially hard you worked on pulling the whole project together—Thank you from the bottom of my grateful heart." In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip impression to the upper left corner. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. When Robert F. Kennedy resigned as Attorney General to run for the U.S. Senate in 1964, he was succeeded by the Deputy Attorney General, Nicholas Katzenbach (1922-2012). In 1966, Katzenbach became LBJ’s Undersecretary of State, serving until the end of Johnson’s presidency in 1969.
