Description

Vintage original glossy 7.5 x 9.75 wire photo of Babe Ruth easing on a pair of ice skates with the help of Swiss skating duo Frick and Frack. Reverse of photo stamp-dated May 9, 1942, with a handwritten letter by Ruth's famous agent Christy Walsh, forwarding the photo for use in a publication. In part: "I arranged this pic exclusively for you at studio, day Babe left for east, after he finished working in Sam Goldwyn's 'Pride of the Yankees.' Principal object to get a little publicity fro 'Frick & Frack' two deserving and unsurpassed stars of the ice...As Babe is always good copy (in Seattle or anywhere) and as Frick & Frack open in Seattle this week I thought you'd like to use this on your page." In fine condition, with scattered light creasing. Famed as Babe Ruth's pioneering agent, Christy Walsh formed the first sports syndicate using baseball stars for licensing and marketing. In turn, he made fortunes for himself and his illustrious clientele.
