Description

Japanese theoretical physicist (1907-1981) who became the first Japanese Nobel laureate with the receipt of the 1949 Nobel Prize in Physics 'for his prediction of the existence of mesons on the basis of theoretical work on nuclear forces.' Vintage glossy 6.75 x 9 wire photo of Hideki Yukawa shaking hands with Columbia University President Dwight D. Eisenhower on November 3, 1949, signed vertically in blue fountain pen. Lower right features an autopen signature of Eisenhower, and reverse bears an Associated Press credit stamp. In very good condition, with overall creasing. In 1949, Yukawa became a professor at Columbia University, the same year he received the Nobel Prize in Physics.
