ALS signed “W. M. Thackeray,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, February 10, 1835. In part: "Allow me to thank you for your proposal, at the same time that I respectfully decline it. I do not think it possible that in a hall which is to be more than half filled by members of your society I could seat subscribers enough to my lectures to remunerate me sufficiently for my time, of which I can dispose elsewhere much more profitably." In very good to fine condition, with writing showing through from opposing sides, and corner loss to the last page affecting no text.
