Description

Graded by PSA NM-MT+ 8.5. One of three examples at this level, with three higher. The 1954 Topps #8 Gordie Howe card is one of the top cards in the entire Hockey card spectrum, and which would belong on the Mount Rushmore of all hockey cards. Capitalizing off their very popular 1953 Topps baseball issue, Topps issued their inaugural hockey card set with a similar colored bottom nameplate, but instead of only one colored corner, the 1954 Topps hockey issue contains both bottom corners with flush-to-the-edge color, which are very susceptible to chipping. Brilliant image, three razor-sharp corners with the lower right blue evidenced with a tiny bit of wear, along with a few minor chips on the bottom edge. Reverse is clean, and this example is also free of the usual print issues which often plague this set.

Howe was the quintessential elite hockey player with speed, strength, skill, and vision, capable of shooting the puck from both the left and right-handed sides. This example of Howe's first Topps card is similar with brilliant eye appeal, and is one of the top hockey cards in the hobby.
