Graded by PSA MINT 9. How reassuring it was for collectors, after Mickey Mantle's retirement in 1969 spring training, to see the great slugger, one last time, on a regular-issue Topps card. He was no longer patrolling the outfield at Yankee Stadium, no longer launching those soaring home runs; his knees were a medical tragedy, and the era of the designated hitter still lay several seasons in the future. But at least we had this special memento, which lists all of Mantle's final statistics—the 536 homers, the 1,509 RBI, the .298 average—and thus lend us comfort. Presented is an enduringly special example of that coveted tribute piece. This copy features proud, never-touched corners, a finely focused image, with a full pink reverse. One of Mickey's most popular cards due to a great up close image of Mantle, it being his final regular issue Topps card, with his complete statistical history is on the reverse. Very difficult in this high grade, only two examples have graded higher.
