Description

American statesman (1782-1866) who served variously as governor of Michigan, senator, ambassador to France, secretary of war, and secretary of state. LS signed “Lew. Cass,” one page, 7.75 x 10, January 31, 1860. Written from the State Department, a letter to Alexander Henry, the mayor of Philadelphia, in full: "Referring to my letter to you, of the 20th instant, relative to the laws or regulations affecting the sale of gas in your city, and to your reply, I now transmit to you, for your information, the copy of a note just received from Lord Lyons on the subject, in which he offers his thanks to you, sir, for your obliging communication." In fine condition.
