Description

Important manual from MIT Charles Stark Draper Laboratory entitled "E-2448, Users' Guide to Apollo GN&CS Major Modes and Routines (Rev. 4), COLOSSUS 3 and LUMINARY IE, April 1972," bound in blue "Apollo Guidance, Navigation and Control" softcover wrappers. The foreword defines its purpose: "The objective is to comprise all major modes, routines, and extended verbs defined by the Guidance System Operations Plan (GSOP) and to describe their operation, theory and interrelationships in sufficient detail for a crew member or mission controller to gain the prerequisite understanding on which to base a more rigorous study of specific, flight-particular details and procedures." Divided into ten sections, the guide offers an overview of programs associated with all aspects of spaceflight: "Prelaunch," "Boost/Ascent," "Coasting Flight Navigation," "Targeting," "Powered Flight," "Alignment," "Entry/Descent," "Additional Extended Verb Routines," and "Extended Verbs." In fine condition. COLOSSUS was the program run on the Apollo Guidance Computer installed in the Command Module, and LUMINARY was the software run on the Lunar Module's AGC. COLOSSUS 3 and LUMINARY IE were the revisions of the code that flew on Apollo 15. From the Don Eyles Apollo Computer Collection.
