Description

Four pins associated with famed newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst, measuring between 7/8″ and 1 1/4″, including two identical "For Governor, William Randolph Hearst" portrait pins in different sizes, a "For Governor, William Randolph Hearst" portrait pin with a patriotic background, and an anti-Hearst "Read Sunday Worker, Don't Read Hearst" pin. In overall fine condition. Though better known for his flamboyant dissemination of sensational 'yellow journalism,' Hearst's political aspirations led him to regularly run for political office: he was twice elected to Congress as a Democrat (1902 and 1904), and unsuccessfully ran for president (1904), mayor of New York (1905 and 1909), and governor of New York (1906).
