TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Universal Pictures Corporation letterhead, July 15, 1930. Letter to Seymour Halpern, in part: "Your letter addressed to Mr. Erich Remarque, has been turned over to me for reply. I regret that your letter cannot be forwarded to Mr. Remarque, inasmuch as he is in Europe at the present time, and his whereabouts are unknown. However, if you wish an autographed photograph of Mr. Remarque, this can be secured by sending in ten cents to cover handling." In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, light edge toning, and a couple of small edge chips. Based on Remarque's novel of the same name, the 1930 epic war film All Quiet on the Western Front was released some three months earlier. Considered a realistic and harrowing account of warfare in World War I, the film received enormous critical praise and earned Laemmle the Outstanding Production Best Picture Oscar at the 3rd Academy Awards.
