Description

Eight TLSs signed "Mamie Doud Eisenhower," each one page, personal letterhead, dated from 1962 to 1970. She comments on her winter in Palm Desert, discusses Arizona, mentions a California vacation (noting that "General Eisenhower is getting in quite a bit of golf"), references the postage stamp honoring Ike ("I attended the ceremonies in the President's office announcing the new stamp issue and I think it is a wonderful tribute to General Eisenhower"), and thoughtfully remembers her husband and his hobby ("I did visit my husband's resting place in Abilene…I make this a yearly trip to pay my respects to General Eisenhower and to spend some time with my ninety-year-old Uncle…Your request for one of the General's paintings is impossible for me to fulfill. During his lifetime, as he finished his paintings, he gave them to personal friends so that there are none to give, now. I have only one or two of my own and, of course, I could not part with them"). In overall fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corner of most of the letters. Accompanied by six of the original mailing envelopes.
