President Fillmore summons senators to the Capitol

LS as president, one page, 7.75 x 5.5, March 3, 1851. In full: "Whereas divers and weighty causes connected with executive business necessary to be transacted create an extraordinary occasion requiring that the Senate be convened, you are therefore requested as a member of that body, to attend a meeting thereof, to be holden at the Capitol in the City of Washington, on the Fourth day of March instant." In very good to fine condition, with scattered light soiling, and professional backing to firmly reinforce the intersecting folds. President Fillmore used this message to summon senators to the Capitol to begin the 32nd United States Congress on March 4, 1851.
