Description

Political leader from Pennsylvania best known for engrossing the Declaration of Independence on parchment (1736-1829). Partly-printed DS, signed “T. Matlack,” one page, 8.5 x 13.5, August 13, 1787. Document by which "James Hutchinson of the City of Philadelphia" assigns Tench Francis a tract of land containing four hundred acres, signed at the conclusion by Matlack as a witness; also signed on the reverse by Matlack to certify that he was personally present. Countersigned below by George Bryan, who had served as the second president of Pennsylvania and was then seated on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. In fine condition, with a small tape repair to the split end of the central horizontal fold.
