Description

Early handwritten letter from the future Liberty Bell 7 pilot

ALS signed “Virgil I. Grissom,” one page both sides, 8 x 10, Project Mercury letterhead, May 4, 1960. Letter to Ken Browne, in full: "Please accept my apology for not answering your previous letter. Quite frankly I don't answer all my mail. I find that it is more important that I spend what little spare time I have with my two boys and my wife. But both of your letters were so nice that they certainly deserved acknowledgment. Bernie or 'Ears' is an old friend of mine and I'm glad to see that he is benefiting from our friendship. I would very much like to have the next three installments of his article. Just as a side note, Betty, Scotty and I spent a very enjoyable winter in your area in 1950-51. I was an aviation cadet at Williams AFB and Betty and Scotty lived in Chandler. Even though they were austere times for us they were happy times and they have a favored place in our memories." In fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corner, and a short fold split. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
