"Placed atop the 'Clair de Lune' dessert" at the Apollo 11 state dinner

Unusual small silk dessert topper American flag from the presidential dinner honoring the Apollo 11 astronauts held at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on August 13, 1969. The flag, which measures 1.5″ x 2″ on a 3.5″ red toothpick, is affixed to the bottom of a letter by Dan McClaskey, manager of the hotel, dated August 18, 1969. In part: "Thank you for writing to us regarding the recent White House dinner in honor of the Apollo 11 astronauts which was held at the Century Plaza Hotel on August 13, 1969. The programs for this function were prepared in a quantity limited to the number of persons who were actually invited to the dinner. However, we are pleased to enclose a small silk replica of the United States flag which was placed atop the 'Clair de Lune' dessert served to astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, Michael Collins and the other invitees." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and a magazine clipping about the dinner.
